Castres Tourist Office

The market, Place Jean Jaurès, Castres

The Castres Tourist Office offers guided visits on foot, by bus and even by the Coche d'eau, "Le Miredames", a wooden boat inspired by the horse-drawn river coaches of XVIIth century, for a small cruise on Agoût river from the center of the town to the Gourjade leisure park, with its open green space, its sense of freedom and its sporting activities.

A walk in the streets of the town center is the best way to discover the history and the monuments of Castres, the old Bishop's palace and its garden designed by Le Nôtre, the cathedral and the churches, the old houses on Agoût and mansions of the XVIIth century. The Goya Museum, the Centre National and Jean Jaurès Museum and the Centre d'art contemporain must not be missed.

A day tours and stay-overs are organised for the appreciation of the world of granite in Sidobre, famous for its landscapes and geological curiosities, chaos and rocks in impossible equilibria. It is also one of the biggest providers of granite in the world. The neighbourhood of Castres is also ich in industrial history with activities such as the leather and the production of pastels. Guided visits and workshops are also organized for students from primary, secondary schools and universities.
